I was given a task by AsusPH to build a cheapo computer worth (50php) around $1000+ as part of my last challenge as a contestant in ASUS Philippines Race to Computex where i can win a trip to Taiwan, and be part of the Computex Convention. Anyway, I decided to create a computer build that is cheaper yet with identical features as with the new iMac – built for gamers, multimedia purposes, and for other computing needs. My first thought was just to buy an Asus EEPC, a LED Monitor, an Xbox 360, and PS3 but i have to abide with the rules and use their mock up pricelist. Anyway, here are the parts that i selected and so far so good i was able to build an i5 PC with a medium-hardcore graphics card, and lots of goodies. Check it out!

The most recent Apple iMac had its last major re-design way back in 2009. As per the guys over at Apple Insider, the iMac 2012 will get a fresh design, and  will also come with anti reflective displays. According to the report, the iMac 2012 range will feature a considerably thinner design than the previous model, and will also be Apple’s first desktop computers to come with anti glare displays. As of now, there are no details on what else we will see with the new iMac 2012’s, although we suspect they will come with Intel’s latest Ivy Bridge processors, and some of the latest graphics cards. We will keep you posted as soon as we get more information about this upcoming device as well as the iMac 2012 release date!

There are some very personal aspects for each one of us especially when it comes about Desktop and Wallpaper. To distinguish this workspace, the Blue Planet application for Macintosh turns it into a full view of Planet Earth.

This view also presents shadows and lit areas.

In the same time, it is possible for you to mark your user location, which can be done using Apple Core Location.

You can also take captures of the current view which can be a delightfull operation if you like or need geography.

The newer vesion, Blue Planet 1.1.1, comes with some improvements as manual simulation of dates and times and you can also can choose where the aplication is showed in the Dock or menu bar.

Maintaining a home network is all about sharing resources. The common shared resources are the files and folders and it is essential that you know how to share your files over the network using your MAC. It is indeeded a straight forward process. It involves File Sharing, Selecting The Folders You Want To Share, And Selecting The Users That Will Have Access To The Shared Folders.

Enable File Sharing

1. Tick the ‘System Preferences’ icon in the Dock.

2. Tick the ‘Sharing’ icon in the Internet & Network section of the System Preferences window.

3. Put a check mark in the ‘File Sharing’ box. Wait till you see a green dot with text ‘File Sharing: On.’

Selecting Folders to Share

Enabling file sharing doesn’t do much good until you specify the folders that others can access.

1. Tick the ‘+’ button below the Shared Folders list in the Sharing window.

2. A Finder window will open, for you see your computer’s file system.

3. Go to the folder you want others to be able to access. You can share any folder you have access
rights to, but for practical reasons, it’s advisable to share only folders in your Home directory.

4. Choose the folder you want to share, then tick the ‘Add’ button.

5. Repeat the above steps for the other folders you want to share.

Access Rights: How to Add Users

1. Tick the ‘+’ button below the Users list in the Sharing window.

2. A list of the user accounts on your Mac will appear.

* You can add any existing user on the list
1. Select a user’s name.

2. Tick the ‘Select’ button to add the individual to the User list.

* You can also create new users to access your shared folders.
1. Tick the ‘New Person’ button.

2. Enter a user name.

3. Enter a password.

4. Renter the password to verify it.

5. Tick the ‘Create Account’ button.

6. The new user will be created and added to the Available User Accounts dialog box.

7. Select the user you created from the list.

8. Tick the ‘Select’ button to add this user to the User list.

Setting Up Access Type

1. Select a user from the User list in the Sharing window.

2. To the right of the user, use the pop-up menu to select the type of access rights the user will have.

* Read Only. The user can only view/read the files

* Read & Write. The user can read/view, make changes to them, or add content to the folder.

* Write Only. (Drop Box) The user can’t see any files in the shared folder, but can add new files to
the shared folder.

3. Make your selection from the menu.

4. Repeat for each member of the Users list.

5. Close the Sharing window when you’re finish

Apple introduces the new Mac Mini which is engineered for this new generation technology.
