The common shared resources are the files and folders and it is essential that you know how to share your files over the network using your MAC. It is indeeded a straight forward process. It involves File Sharing, Selecting The Folders You Want To Share, And Selecting The Users That Will Have Access To The Shared Folders.

Enable File Sharing

1. Tick the ‘System Preferences’ icon in the Dock.

2. Tick the ‘Sharing’ icon in the Internet & Network section of the System Preferences window.

3. Put a check mark in the ‘File Sharing’ box. Wait till you see a green dot with text ‘File Sharing: On.’

Selecting Folders to Share

Enabling file sharing doesn’t do much good until you specify the folders that others can access.

1. Tick the ‘+’ button below the Shared Folders list in the Sharing window.

2. A Finder window will open, for you see your computer’s file system.

3. Go to the folder you want others to be able to access. You can share any folder you have access
rights to, but for practical reasons, it’s advisable to share only folders in your Home directory.

4. Choose the folder you want to share, then tick the ‘Add’ button.

5. Repeat the above steps for the other folders you want to share.

Access Rights: How to Add Users

1. Tick the ‘+’ button below the Users list in the Sharing window.

2. A list of the user accounts on your Mac will appear.

* You can add any existing user on the list
1. Select a user’s name.

2. Tick the ‘Select’ button to add the individual to the User list.

* You can also create new users to access your shared folders.
1. Tick the ‘New Person’ button.

2. Enter a user name.

3. Enter a password.

4. Renter the password to verify it.

5. Tick the ‘Create Account’ button.

6. The new user will be created and added to the Available User Accounts dialog box.

7. Select the user you created from the list.

8. Tick the ‘Select’ button to add this user to the User list.

Setting Up Access Type

1. Select a user from the User list in the Sharing window.

2. To the right of the user, use the pop-up menu to select the type of access rights the user will have.

* Read Only. The user can only view/read the files

* Read & Write. The user can read/view, make changes to them, or add content to the folder.

* Write Only. (Drop Box) The user can’t see any files in the shared folder, but can add new files to
the shared folder.

3. Make your selection from the menu.

4. Repeat for each member of the Users list.

5. Close the Sharing window when you’re finish

You can choose a beautiful selections of screen savers for your Mac. Screen savers allows you to close active windows and display something in your screen while it’s on standby mode.

Enjoy customizing your own screen savers with photos displayed on your Mac or designs which you have made originally.

To start with, you go to System Preferences from the Apple Menu.

Click on “Desktop & Screen Saver”

Next click the “Screen Saver” tab.

It then shows you the list for selecting which screen saver you would choose to apply. Mac OS also allows you to automatically display saved items from your iTunes or iPhoto applications which is of course, very convenient on your part!

Simply click on the selection and then try to “Test” it before applying it to your application.

Here are some tips on how to speed up web browsing and save you some time looking through your long history list for bookmarks.

With this, you can actually add shortcuts so that you can automatically get into the web pages directly by just clicking a few buttons and instantly you’ll be able to view it.

Here are some steps to follow:

Go to “System Preferences”

Click ” Keyboard and Mouse”

Then “Keyboard shortcuts”

Click [+] in the Application menu and choose “Safari”

Look for the “Menu Title” then add the link for the bookmark

You can also assign shortcut keys and then save it.

You would then be able to see the saved bookmark under “Bookmarks” on the Safari Menu.

Stickies lets you list all important details and itineraries in your Mac. It does not even require downloading as it is a native application being installed within Mac’s software.

You can change the color of your stickies to make it look attractive and creative too.  Just to to the menu bar then select Color and choose that which you prefer for your sticky notes.

Displaying pictures is also a good idea too. You can just simply drag photos or clips from sites into your sticky notes and it automatically gets pasted into it. You can choose to make it float, so wherever you click, the sticky notes is always active in your screen. You can also have it translucent to view other screens other than the application itself.

Save your sticky notes so you can view them the next time you open the application.

Garageband allows you to create beautiful pieces of melody and it has various instruments installed in the software.

When creating music with Garageband, select the icon on your “Applications” list.

You can start with any instruments you like whether it be piano, guitar or drums.

An example is the piano:

Click the “Piano” icon or Apple icon+ K

Use the corresponding letters to the keys of the instrument and you will hear the sounds.

You can either mix different instruments and create some tunes with it.

Save the file and you are ready to upload it in the Internet to be listened to.
